In Russia, winter holidays start at the end of December. This year's public holiday overlaps with Saturday and Sunday, so we will be closed for 9 days.
With only a week left until the New Year, Muscovites are in New Year's mode. I have a lot of work deadlines. On top of that, I am busy with various household chores, such as cleaning the house, decorating for the New Year, and preparing presents. Both children and adults are waiting for the winter holidays.
The streets of Moscow are also cleaned up and decorated with about 200 lovely Christmas trees.
But the Kremlin Christmas tree is considered the prettiest. It is the country's main Christmas tree. There is a special committee that selects the main Christmas trees, and each year experts take a close look at the trees' appearance. The pines should be tall and fluffy and about 100 years old. According to experts, pine trees that are nearly 100 years old gradually weaken, and even if they are cut down, there is no impact on the environment.
The main Christmas tree in 2023 is 27 meters high, has a trunk diameter of 56 cm and is 95 years old. The decoration of the Kremlin tree takes several days to complete. This year it was completed on December 23rd. The decoration does not change much from year to year. The New Year tree is decorated with gold, white and red balls and lights.
Wishing you all a wonderful 2023!
