In Portugal, there have been many cases of pickpocketing and baggage theft. In response to this, the PSP is warning travelers to be cautious, as there is a high risk of theft occurring in commercial facilities and tourist spots during Easter in April.
Please be especially careful with your valuables when visiting Lisbon's tourist areas (BAIXA, BAIRRO ALTO, BELEM, ALFAMA, CAIS DO SODLE, and PARQUE DAS NACOES).
It is a common tactic where groups of people posing as tourists approach people from behind, open their bags and steal the contents.
When sightseeing, always carry your backpack or bag in front of you (there have been frequent reports of people walking around with a backpack on their back and having the zipper of the backpack opened, causing valuables such as wallets to disappear), and be careful of any suspicious people following you from behind.
At your accommodation, please take security measures such as storing valuables in a safe and taking care to keep valuables such as wallets, mobile phones, etc. on you when leaving your seat in the breakfast area or restaurant.
