Cameroon Presidential Election: Caution before voting day (October 12th)

1. Voting for the Cameroon presidential election will take place from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM on Sunday, October 12th. As the alert level is expected to increase in various areas leading up to the election day, please refrain from unnecessary outings. In particular, please be careful not to approach public facilities that will serve as polling stations, election-related facilities such as ELECAM and political party offices, or the vicinity of government buildings. Please refer to the consular email sent by our embassy on September 26th (warning regarding the election campaign period) and act with caution to avoid being caught up in any unforeseen incidents.
2. On Election Day, it is expected that government officials and other important figures will be visiting polling stations. Widespread traffic restrictions will be implemented without prior notice, and there is a possibility that checkpoints and questioning by police and other security authorities will be strengthened. Therefore, if you must go out, be sure to carry identification with you and cooperate if you are stopped by authorities. Also, to avoid arousing suspicion, please do not take photographs of the military, police, security forces, etc.
3. During the previous Cameroon presidential election (2018), the authorities implemented restrictions such as closing borders (land, sea, and air), restricting travel between cities, and suspending operations of commercial facilities such as supermarkets from 48 hours before to the day of the election, and similar measures may be taken for this election. Those traveling abroad around the time of the election should make sure to obtain the latest flight information, and those staying in Cameroon should make sure to secure enough food and necessary daily necessities.
