Cameroon presidential election: results postponed
Oct. 23, 2025, 6:40 p.m.
[Main text]
As previously announced, the situation in Cameroon surrounding the presidential election continues to require careful attention. While reports indicated that the results of the Cameroon presidential election were to be announced on Thursday, October 23rd, the Constitutional Council has issued a statement stating that the results will be announced at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 27th. A public hearing for appeals was held on Wednesday, October 22nd.
As announced in the consular email dated October 21st (Cameroon Presidential Election: Caution Immediately Before the Results Are Announced), political tensions are rising due to protests by opposition supporters and others, and the situation remains one in which security could rapidly deteriorate on the day of the election results announcement and around that time, with many security forces deployed in the center of the capital, Yaoundé.
Garoua (Northern Region): Approximately 20 Cameroonians were arrested (one person is reported to have died) following clashes between opposition supporters and police.
We have received information that opposition supporters are gathering in the Tinga district of Yaoundé (Central Province) to hold a protest demonstration, and that opposition supporters are gathering in the New-Bell district of Douala (Littoral Province) to hold a protest demonstration. Please continue to take note of the following and act with caution to avoid being caught up in any unforeseen incidents.
●Avoid unnecessary outings as much as possible and stay at home or somewhere where your safety is guaranteed.
●In the waiting area, prepare enough water, food, a change of clothes, communication devices such as a cell phone to last for several days to a week, spare batteries for flashlights and cell phones in case of power outages, passports, cash, credit cards, etc. in case of evacuation.
If you have to go out for unavoidable reasons,

Cameroon Presidential Election: Caution before the results are announced
Oct. 21, 2025, 6:45 p.m.
[Main text]
According to reports, the Constitutional Council (located in the Palais des Congrès in Yaoundé) will hold a public hearing on objections to the Cameroonian presidential election, which took place on October 12, on Wednesday, October 22, and will announce the election results on Thursday, October 23.
As previously announced, political tensions are rising as opposition supporters and others who claim that the Electoral Administration (ELECAM) has falsified the voting results have been holding protests in several cities across the country. While it is impossible to predict the content of the election results, we cannot rule out the possibility of a sudden deterioration in the security situation, such as protests by those dissatisfied with the results, attacks on election-related facilities and government facilities, clashes between opposing supporters, and acts of looting that take advantage of the chaos and an increase in general crime.
In addition, authorities are expected to step up checkpoints and impose traffic restrictions to prevent unrest, and if the security situation deteriorates, the possibility of deploying military and other security forces to the affected areas cannot be ruled out.
Therefore, until the situation calms down, please take the following precautions to avoid being caught up in any unforeseen incidents.
