Provisional results of the presidential election announced
April 14, 2025, 3:05 a.m.
So far, there have been no signs of riots or other incidents following the announcement of the provisional results, but given that there is a certain number of opposition supporters, the possibility of demonstrations and other protests cannot be ruled out. There are also concerns that general crimes (such as molestation and theft in crowded areas, burglary of empty homes, and trouble caused by drunks and drug users) may occur taking advantage of the celebratory mood following the election of interim President Origi.
Therefore, we ask that all Japanese residents and travelers overseas please make sure to lock your homes and other doors, always carry identification when going out, refrain from going out at night as much as possible for the time being, and if you see any gatherings or crowds in the city, please make your safety your top priority by leaving the scene immediately and take care not to get caught up in any unforeseen incidents.

Warning about the presidential election
April 9, 2025, 11:40 p.m.
So far, we have not heard of any major problems with this election campaign, but as the final day of the campaign (April 11th) approaches, we expect a certain amount of excitement to build up across the country.
○To all Japanese residents and travelers, please be sure to carry your identification when going out as a precaution against checkpoints, and if you see any gatherings or crowds in the city, please make your safety your top priority by leaving the scene immediately. Please also be careful not to cause unnecessary trouble by taking photographs, etc.
○It has been reported that the provisional results of the presidential election will be announced within four days of the voting date. In both the previous election (2023: political upheaval) and the election before that (2016: riots), the situation changed significantly immediately after the results were announced, so we ask that you continue to keep a close eye on the domestic situation and act with caution for the time being after the results of this presidential election are announced.
○In addition, in preparation for an emergency, we ask that you keep about a week's worth of food, drinking water, and daily necessities stored at home or elsewhere.
* In the event that the security situation deteriorates and mobile phone and internet lines are down, as a last resort the Embassy may broadcast necessary information via regular FM radio broadcasts (frequency: 89.7MHz, twice a day at 10am and 3pm). The reception area is within a 10km radius of the Embassy (depending on the reception environment), and the broadcast can also be received by car radios.
