The provinces of Huambo (Huambo, Kuima, Kachungo, Ekuunya), Huila (Lubango, Okoué), Malanje (Malange, Kakso, Kasso, Pungo-Andongo), Kwanza Norte (Samba-Kaju, Kambambe), Kwanza Sulu (Ribolo, Kuibara), Zaire (Tomboko), Cunene (Kuanyama), Cabinda (Cabinda, Kakongo), Uige (Songo), and Cubango (Menongwe) have reported 5,990 cholera cases (1,076 more than last week) and 211 deaths (31 more than last week) since the first case on January 7.
2. The Ministry of Health, through the Luanda Provincial Health Service, continues to implement WHO-recommended cholera control measures (disinfection of affected areas, behavioral management of infected persons, testing of suspected cases, distribution of hypochlorous acid, etc.).
3. Cholera is transmitted by oral infection through food or water contaminated with cholera bacteria in the stool of a patient or a carrier (if the patient has no symptoms). The incubation period ranges from a few hours to five days, and the disease is characterized by severe watery diarrhea (similar to rice water) and vomiting, and can be fatal if dehydration is not corrected. If you experience symptoms, we recommend that you immediately visit a medical institution.
4. Preventive measures (1) Be sure to take regular preventive measures against infectious diseases, such as washing your hands, using alcohol-based disinfectant (especially after using the toilet and before eating), and gargling.
(2) Avoid consuming tap water, ice, raw or undercooked seafood (shrimp, crab, sashimi, etc.), and raw vegetables.
(3) Avoid coming into contact with diarrhea or vomit, and if you do come into contact with them, be sure to wash your hands with soap and disinfect them with alcohol.

Warning regarding the Carnival event being held in Luanda

Feb. 28, 2025, 7:11 p.m.
Events celebrating Carnival will be held from Saturday, March 1st to Monday, March 3rd, mainly at the event venue on Nova Marginal Street in front of the Agostinho Neto Memorial Museum in Luanda.
The above period is a consecutive holiday period in Angola, and many tourists from inside and outside Luanda Province will visit. The surrounding area is expected to be very congested, especially around the event venue. In addition, due to preparation and dismantling work related to the event, traffic restrictions will be put into place on Nova Marginal Avenue from February 17th to March 4th on roads around the venue. In particular, on the day of the event and several days before and after the event, Nova Marginal Avenue is completely closed, and traffic restrictions are in place, and chronic congestion is expected in the surrounding areas. We recommend that you avoid unnecessary access to the venue area as much as possible during the carnival period. If you have to travel around the area, please check the travel time and travel route (including detour routes) in advance.
In Angola, in places where large crowds gather and in their surrounding areas, there is an increase in various crimes such as robbery, pickpocketing, snatching, car theft, and molestation. In the past, there have been cases of baggage theft (from under the spectator seats) and pickpocketing (a group of criminals surrounded a person walking along the sidewalk to the venue and the victim was attacked when they made physical contact with him) at the same event venue.
If you are travelling on foot in the area surrounding the event venue, please keep your belongings to a minimum, especially valuables (wallets, mobile phones, watches, bags, etc.) at home or in a hotel, and bring only identification and the minimum amount of cash you need. Be careful not to become a target by appearing not to carry valuables and by dispersing your belongings. We do not recommend storing valuables in your vehicle as there is a risk of vehicle break-ins.
Even in the stands, we recommend that you keep your belongings close to you and not at your feet while watching the event. It is also effective to show your vigilance by occasionally looking around. Please be sure to check your surroundings carefully and do not drop your guard.
