Additionally, 29 cases have been confirmed in Niassa Province, two in Manica Province (Chimoio and Mashaze districts), and three in Maputo Province (Matola district). (Global epidemic situation, etc.)
Since 2024, Empox clade 1 (1a and 1b), which has been noted to be potentially more severe than previous strains, has begun to spread in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and neighboring countries, and in August of the same year, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared it to meet the criteria for a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC). Since then, imported cases of Empox have been confirmed outside the African continent.
On June 5th of this year, the WHO held its fourth emergency meeting on MPOX and determined that the criteria for a public health emergency (PHEIC) continue to be met.
