First Empox case confirmed in Niassa province

On July 11, the Ministry of Health announced the first case of Mpox in the country.
On July 8, three suspected cases of Empox were reported in Lago County (Metangula and Kobue districts) in Niassa Province. On July 10, the Niassa Provincial Health Service confirmed that the cases were positive. The patients are currently in clinical stable condition and are in home isolation. The genotype is under investigation.

(Disease Overview)
(1) Symptoms The incubation period is 5 to 21 days (usually 6 to 13 days). One to three days after the onset of fever, characteristic blisters appear on the face and limbs, and a rash may also appear on the mucous membranes of the mouth, anus, genitals, etc. Muscle pain, headache, swollen lymph nodes, etc. may also be seen. In most cases, the illness will heal naturally within two to four weeks, but it may be fatal.
