June 25, 2025, 10:40 p.m.
[Main text]
An incident has occurred in which a Japanese national was the victim. We would like to inform you as follows.
1. Overview of the incident
(1) Date and time
Saturday, June 14, 2025, around 15:00 (2) Location
Mendoza City, Mendoza Province (near San Martin Park)
(3) Victims and details of damage
Victim: Japanese man in his 20s (bruises, abrasions)
Damage details: Smartphone, wallet, credit card
(4) Status of the damage
The victim was walking around San Martin Park in Mendoza, Mendoza Province, when he was suddenly pinned down by two men, believed to be locals, who approached him from both sides, grabbed his arms from both sides and knocked him to the ground. The men then threatened him with a small knife, straddled him, and robbed him of his shoulder pouch containing his passport, his wallet and smartphone that were in his pocket. The perpetrators then split up and fled, but the victim was able to chase them and retrieve his shoulder pouch containing his passport.
2. Crime Prevention Measures
(1) Mendoza Province is one of the main tourist destinations in Argentina, and is visited by many tourists from both within and outside the country. For this reason, there are many crimes targeting tourists, such as snatch thefts. It is easy for criminals to tell whether someone is a tourist or not, and walking alone increases the risk of becoming a target, so it is important to be aware of traveling in groups as much as possible and to walk in places with a lot of people.
(2) When traveling, it is important to avoid carrying valuables as much as possible. If you do carry valuables, it is also important to spread them out as much as possible just in case.
(3) As in this case, robbers usually act in groups and it is not uncommon for them to carry concealed firearms when committing crimes. For this reason, even if you are unfortunate enough to encounter a robbery or other such situation, you should never resist, but rather make protecting your own life your top priority.
