Beware of Tropical Depression (Jerry)

Oct. 9, 2025, 5:50 a.m.
As of 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 8th, Tropical Depression Jerry is located approximately 700 km east of Barbados and is moving northwest at 37 km/h.
1 The Barbados Meteorological Service has warned that the effects of this low pressure system will begin to be felt from October 9th, and is urging people across the island to be on the lookout for flash floods, strong winds, high waves, etc.

2. A tropical storm warning is currently in effect for Antigua and Barbuda and Saint Kitts and Nevis, so caution is advised against flash flooding, strong winds, and high waves through tomorrow. No warnings have been issued for Dominica, but caution is advised against high waves near the coast. Those staying in the above four countries should make an effort to collect information on this cyclone by referring to the related websites below, and take sufficient precautions to avoid being involved in disasters or accidents.

3. How to Deal with Tropical Depression (Jerry) (1) Before it passes: Pay attention to weather warnings and measures taken by authorities. Check and secure your supplies and items to take with you. Confirm your evacuation location. Reinforce your home and windows: move or secure any items that may be blown away by strong winds. Clean drains and gutters, move outdoor bicycles and furniture indoors, and consider installing protective nets and shutters. In preparation for power outages, prepare smartphones, flashlights, lighters, candles, portable radios, spare batteries, etc., and secure and stockpile necessary supplies such as drinking water, food, and gasoline.

(2) While the tropical depression is passing through, wait in a safe place indoors, wait in a room or place without windows, and refrain from going outside while the tropical depression is passing through or making landfall (there are many dangers, including fallen trees, roofs, signs, and other flying objects. If you have to go out (by car), never enter flooded roads).
・Pay attention to weather warnings and measures taken by authorities. ・Frequently check the latest information. ・What to do in the event of a power outage: Unplug all electrical appliances from the outlet (when power is restored, if all electrical appliances start operating at once, fuses may blow or circuit breakers may trip).

(3) After the typhoon has passed, check that the warning has been lifted and refrain from going out unless it is absolutely necessary (there will still be various dangers for a while after the typhoon has passed).
・Points to remember if you have to go out: When traveling by car, be careful of power lines, fallen trees, fallen fences, and other obstacles, and drive predictably. ・When traveling on foot, be careful of hanging power lines, broken glass, and other broken objects. ・Avoid puddles, etc., as they may be contaminated or have short circuits.

4. In the unlikely event that you are caught up in a disaster, please make efforts to ensure your safety by following the warnings and instructions issued by the meteorological authorities of each country, and contact the Embassy of Japan (contact details listed below).
