2. About Empox (1) Overview Empox is an acute rash disease caused by infection with the Empox virus, and occurs mainly in central and western Africa.
(2) Symptoms The incubation period is 5-21 days (usually 6-13 days), and the mortality rate is reported to be a few percent to 10%. Symptoms include rash, fever, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, swollen lymph nodes, anal and rectal pain, and other skin and mucous membrane lesions. A characteristic rash appears on the face and limbs 1-3 days after the onset of fever, and rashes may also appear in the mouth, genitals, and eyes. Clinically, it is important to differentiate it from smallpox.
(3) Prevention: In areas where EMPOCH is prevalent, be sure to take the following preventive measures and consult a doctor immediately if you suspect you may have been infected.
●Avoid contact with droplets or bodily fluids of people with symptoms.
Avoid contact with rodents and other mammals (including their carcasses) that may carry the Empox virus, and refrain from eating or handling wild game meat (bushmeat).
