また台湾の大晦日は家族のみんなと一緒に年越しの夕食を食べるようにします。
食卓には縁起の良い食べ物を並べます。
例えば、魚料理の魚の発音は「ユイ」で「余る＝餘（ユイ)」と同じ発音となり、魚を食べこの一年間お金を貯められるようにとの思いからです。

そして子どもが一番期待しているのはお年玉です。
大人は赤い封筒(紅包ホンバオ)を用意して、縁起のよい偶数の金額を入れます。
就職した者は感謝の気持ちを伝えるために両親にお年玉をあげることもあります。
他ご祝儀の場合も紅包を使いますが、「4」は死と同じ発音になるので避けなければいけません。
基本的には偶数にする必要があります。
